The Kromme Rijn runs from Wijk bij Duurstede through a beautiful nature and silence area to Utrecht. The Kromme Rijn is originally an important branch of the Rhine to the North Sea. Along the river are several estates, such as New and Old Amelisweerd.
Because, among other things, the banks are protected, construction can take place in a limited number of locations. Moorings are available at:
- Stadion Nieuw Galgenwaard
- Auberge “The Old Tollhouse” on the outskirts of town
- The Stay Okay in Bunnik
- Teahouse Rhijnauwen
During the tour, you will continue sailing past several forts that are part of the Dutch Waterline. These forts are managed by the Forestry Commission. Some forts have guided tours and you can enjoy the peace and nature. Due to the protected status of the estates, you can do some great bird watching along the way.
Hostel The Stay Okay in Bunnik is traditionally an old knight’s court, now also used for parties and celebrations. There is ample parking to allow a boat tour to start from there.
Theehuis Rhijnauwen is about 1.5 hours by boat from Utrecht and borders the forest. They have a great waterfront terrace, a small playground and donkeys and goats. You can take a nice walk or eat a pancake there.
Be surprised during our cruises on the Kromme Rijn!
